When materials to meet expressed needs are not available, VOICE develops projects to produce them. We either assist indigenous partners to develop materials based on Western experience but customized to the conditions of their own countries; or provide Western models that can be adapted to their situations. Current projects are listed below.
A
New Handbook
(published October, l999)
A training guide and reference book covering
To Promote and Protect Women's Human Rights was written in response to requests from women's NGOs in Eastern Europe to the VOICE International Information Clearinghouse. They wanted detailed, "how to" information on techniques and strategies that women in the West use to affect public policy and participate in public life. Included are numbers of models that can be adapted to differing circumstances including the training needs of a candidate for office, how to design a political campaign, put on a press conference, give an interview, participate in a debate, collect research data, and conduct public education campaigns.
The handbook was developed for women's NGOs in Eastern Europe but should be useful to women's NGOs in all countries in transition as well as groups involved in the political process in the U.S. We recommend it as a self-education tool, for use in training sessions or academic programs, and for women participating in exchange programs as an introduction to the organizational models and techniques employed by women (and men) in the U.S. to participate in public life.
*Handbooks are $28, prepaid. Shipping & handling $3.50*
A directory of 55 U.S. funders that give grants directly to civic organizations in Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. The directory enables nongovernmental organizations in the region to increase their chances of finding funding, allowing them to expand their programs and develop direct ties to U.S. funding organizations.
The directory will also be useful for embassies, U.S. nonprofits, government agencies, multilateral organizations and others who work in the region.
Features:
The Guide is available in print copy from VOICE International for U.S.$30.00, shipping and handling included. We accept checks or bank drafts (drawn on a U.S. bank, please) or wire transfers. Sorry, no credit cards. We ask also that U.S. and other non-indigenous groups that use the on-line directory pay the U.S.$30.00 to assist VOICE in maintaining and updating it. Send your check to P.O.Box 7703, Arlington, VA 22207 or contact us at: for wire transfer information.
