Program areas include:
1) Banning land mines: grants to support research, advocacy,
coalition building, and media work needed internationally and in the U.S.
2) Preventing armed conflict: supports behind the scenes efforts to
convene direct, off-the-record talks between adversaries, and to develop
links between analysts and scientists across hostile borders. Also seeks
to support projects that promote practical policy measures to curb the
spread of light weapons, and projects that examine the role of United
Nations peacekeeping and research into underlying causes of conflict.
3) Restraining the weapons trade: supports lobbying and advocacy
organizations that are calling for a national and international "code
of conduct" restricting weapons sales to countries that do not uphold
the principles of democracy, human rights, non-aggression, and
participation in the UN Conventional Arms Register. The Fund also supports
individuals and organizations that provide critical research and
information on global arms transfers to policymakers, the media and the
public.
4) Cleaning up the radioactive environment: (in the former Soviet
Union) supports the development of an indigenous network of citizens'
groups who are facing great environmental challenges caused by production
of nuclear weapons in their countries.
5) Fighting nuclear terrorism and proliferation: (special campaign)
to support efforts to work toward the elimination of nuclear weapons;
support organizations and individuals promoting international treaties to
halt the testing of nuclear weapons or the production of nuclear weapons
fuels, and programs that develop regional security measures aimed at
controlling the spread of nuclear weapons. The Ploughshares Fund also has
a unique program supporting analysts and grassroots activists in the
former Soviet Union who are working to prevent the spread of nuclear
materials and technology from their region.

Please include:
1) summary page: name of organization, name and title of contact
organization, address, phone, fax, amount requested, amount of projected
budget and organization budget, project title, summary description of
organization and project, and the name, contact person, address, and phone
of fiscal sponsor (if applicable);
2) full proposal: (no more than 10 pages) description of
organization, full description of project (methods, objectives, audience,
timeline, results, evaluation, etc.), qualifications of key personnel for
the project, list of the Board of Directors, information and/or
documentation of current or past accomplishments, names and phone numbers
of three references;
3) complete budgets for the project and the organization, proof of
tax exemption status, other sources of funding & potential funders,
fiscal sponsor's IRS letter of determination & a letter from the
fiscal sponsor agreeing to act in that role.
