Program Areas...............................................................................

The Getty Grant Program supports a wide range of projects that promote research in the history of art and related fields, advancement of the understanding of art, and conservation of cultural heritage.
Specific categories of support include:
1) Scholarship in the History of Art: provides support for scholarship to foster intellectual development of the field and to strengthen basic resources, including postdoctoral fellowships and senior research grants; support for up to three years for publications to advance scholarship in art and architectural history, and support for resources including research centers, archival projects, and reference works.
*The Special Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe is a short-term initiative providing fellowships to scholars from the region at or beyond postdoctoral level in art history and related fields. Fellowships are designed to enable scholars to pursue art-historical research for a four month period outside their home countries and to enhance opportunities for scholarly access and cultural exchange. The project is currently being administered out of the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York, USA. Contact: Sharon Dickman, University of Rochester, Tel: 716-275-4128 or Libby Rogers, J. Paul Getty Trust, Tel.: 310-440-6616
2) Conservation: intended to strengthen the practice of conservation and protect outstanding examples of the world's artistic and architectural heritage; includes support for conservation of works of art including surveys, treatment and training, as well as architectural conservation programs.
3) Museums: committed to assisting museums with art collections in the development of projects that utilize their collections as both scholarly and educational resources, including cataloging of resources and interpretive services that enhance the public's understanding of museums' permanent collections.
4) Professional Organizations: grants are available to major national and international professional organizations concerned with scholarship, conservation, or museums for special projects that these organizations consider crucial to the fields they serve.
